Users not happy with new Facebook changes

As some know, Facebook has recently changed their users' pages and, like all changes, some like it and some don't. This article focuses on those who don't like the changes. Some of the changes that were made were:

1. The News Feed was changed in that when you look at it, it doesn't "default" to the Top News stories. Instead, they added in a "Top Stories" bar on the top which shows you the most popular or "top" stories of all of your friends.

2. They also added what they call "The Ticker" to the right side of the Facebook page. It shows all of your comments, posts, and 'likes' in it as soon as the action is made. Some find this annoying and distracting, others think that it will "bridge the gap in the time lag the News Feed sometimes experiences".

I thought this was interesting because, like my other top news story, I am a Facebook user and so are many people that I know. There are so many people that Facebook is connected to in the world. In fact, there are almost a billion members now. So when Facebook makes a change, it is noticed by the world and affects everyone that is on it. So with such a large group of people logged into Facebook, there will be a lot of room for debate on the topic of whether the changes are for the better or worse.

What makes this story News Worthy is first that it has Impact because it will have an effect on many lives of those who are all connected to Facebook. Second, it has Immediacy because it just happened on September 21st. Third, it has Proximity because as a college student, a lot of people rely on Facebook to make their network connections with other students. Fourth, it has Prominence because everyone knows about Facebook. Fifth, it has Conflict because some like the changes and some don't and are even taking it to the level of where they will stop using Facebook due to the changes.

Significant News Story #1

CNN – Google+ vs. Facebook: The war for online social games
In this news story, Google+ is trying to compete with Facebook for online games. While Google+ has 16 new games such as Angry Birds, Facebook has time on its side. They have over 800 million users in comparison to 25 million for Google+. Facebook has a huge lead and has been around for longer. Google+ is fairly new but rising up in the ranks for social networking. I found this story interesting because I am a Facebook user and I have also heard a lot about Google+ but I never really knew what it was. I also found it interesting that Google+ has the guts to go up against such a large corporation such as Facebook. For me, I don’t really care for Google+ much. It’s too much like Skype. So I thought it was crazy for Google+ to even think of competing against Facebook in anything. I also play games such as CafĂ© World and Farmville. I know so many people that play those games and more that I don’t think that anyone is really going to go for Google+ instead of Facebook games.
What makes this story news worthy first is that it has immediacy because it is happening right now. Second, it has proximity because Google+ and Facebook can both be accessed from anyone’s home as long as they have an internet connection. Third, it has prominence because almost everyone has heard of Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg. Fourth, it has novelty because Google+ is new and it’s a new battle between the two that has never occurred before and fifth, because it has conflict between the two companies that own Google+ and Facebook.

Who Am I? :)

Hello. My name is Stephanie but my nickname is Mikachi and I am a Creative Writing Major but I am thinking of switching to Journalism soon :) I am currently taking 12-13 units. I decided to switch to a journalism major because I really want to maybe be a lawyer or journalist. I also love to read, research, and write. I also always wanted to be part of a journalism class but I never had time to take it in High School. So here I am in JOUR61 finally taking it. So far, I really enjoy this class and I can't wait to learn more about different kinds of journalism. I do have another personal blog so I'm not really a stranger to blogger.com but I really like to post so I feel that this is going to be a fun experience. Can't wait to get started! So here is my first introductory blog :) Hope you enjoyed it.
